Onto day four of the Our Camp blogs, with Katie Ellis, and the first injury of the week...
Katie has just qualified as an osteopath, a career that she chose with snowboarding in mind. Not only is she surrounded by potential clients every time that she heads up the hill, but it’s a job that allows her to work where the snow falls. The only down side is the rising backlog of riding buddies queuing up to receive her ministrations…
“I had loads of energy this morning because the week had been going really well. On Tuesday I had learnt 180s with grabs, and frontside boardslides on the boxes, and I was having so much fun riding. I normally ride a few weeks of the year, and I felt like I’d made more progress in three days on the camp than I usually did in three weeks riding without coaching. I found riding with the other girls on the camp really boosted my confidence; it was so much fun and everyone was really encouraging and happy for you when you learnt something new.
After warming up, we headed over to some bigger kickers. It was hot and slushy so it was getting slow, and I was pretty anxious about clearing the flat. I hit it a bit faster than I could probably control, went off my toes and landed on my shoulder. The girls kindly picked me up and helped me down the hill, but unfortunately that was my riding over for the day.
Nothing broken, just sore and strained. I missed the luging this afternoon, but there’s so much to do in Deux Alpes, even if you can’t snowboard. I was happy to hang out by the lake, topping up my tan. There are loads of summer activities here and it’s a good party town: there are lots of camps in town and always people around to hang out with.
