With favourites Chelsea Hedges and Stephanie Gilmore both out, Sophia Mulanovich, Samantha Cornish, Layne Beachley are some of the new favourites to win this event.
Rosanne Hodges, the South African surfer who took out Steph Gilmore, said, 'It feels like I've just won the contest, it’s the first time I've made it out of Round 3 this year and Steph is really the surfer to beat, I am so happy right now.'
Alana Blanchard knocked out ex world champ Chelsea Hedges, but was laid back about her win, 'It feels good, just too bad there weren’t enough waves so we could actually see some good surfing but I’m really happy.'...
Here's what's going on in the quarter finals...
Heat 1: Samantha Cornish continues on her route towards the number one spot on the tour and defeats Melanie Redman Carr. By getting through, she's unofficially taken the top spot away from Stephanie Gilmore.
Heat 2: Alana Blanchard has been on an amazing run so far, but she's no match for Sofia Mulanovich, who who now holds five of the top ten scores of this event after comboing Alana in this heat. Sofia is definitely one of the favourites to win.
Heat 3: Well, well, well, more upset! Layne Beachley is out. The reigning world champ has been trounced by Amee Donohoe who scored 12.25 to Beachley's 5.00. Amee will now face either Silvana Lima or Rosanne Hodge in the semis, depending on the results of the next heat.
Heat 4: Rosanne Hodge put in a damn good try, but
Silvana Lima goes through and will face Amee Donohoe in the finals. Here's the match ups...
