Following her win at the Billabong Girls Pro Brazil, and Sofia Mulanovich keeping Silvana Lima off the top spot at the Ripcurl Girls Pro in Santander, 26-year-old Aussie Samantha Cornish has moved up to first place in the women's ASP World Tour for the first time in her five years on tour. Previously, her highest ranking was no. 5 in 2003, and last year she even dropped off the tour, and is only surfing this year after she was allocated the wild card place.
Now that she's on top, she plans to keep it that way, 'The ratings are very close so it's going to be a tough fight right up until Hawaii! My plan is to just stay focused and positive for the coming events, and hopefully, at the end of year, I'm World Champion.'
