Stephanie Gilmore will hold the Beachley Classic title for another year after defeating Brazilian Silvana Lima in a super close final. Stephanie Gilmore took first with 15.43, only 0.10 points ahead of Silvana Lima. Her win puts Gilmore back into the number one spot in the ASP world tour, while Silvana Lima retains her second place.
Of the final, Stephanie Gilmore said, 'That was the first time I’ve surfed against Silvana and it was one of the hardest heats of my life. Silvana was getting waves that I didn't want and she was turning them into 7's and 8's and it was just scary. Silvana is just on fire right now and I think a defeat like this is going to make her so hungry. You just feel so proud of yourself when you win and I feel invincible right now....'
Silvana Lima was clearly disappointed about her second place finish, ‘I can't believe I lost, it was very disappointing for me because I have finished second so many times this year. I would like to go up against her again for sure!'
The next stop on the tour is the Mancora Peru Classic, the home of ex-world champ Sofia Mulanovich, which kicks off on October 30th.
