Real Nollie Girls: Mountain boarder Lorna Boughen

Our second Nollie girl interview is with mountain boarder and flying squirrel Lorna Boughen...

Why mountain boarding? I've always enjoyed mountain boarding because of the adrenaline rush I get every time I step on my board. No matter what the weather is like it's just great being out with all our boarding friends, travelling all over the UK and camping at various different locations when we are out free riding or at competitions.

What's your favourite trick? Most of my riding is downhill, not so much free style but I like incorporating quarter pipes, rails and drop-offs into my ride...

Why should more girls join your mountain boarding crew, the flying squirrels? They just should!!! It's much more fun riding with other girls as they are much more relaxed than the guys and we are not as competitive with each other but really push each other at the same time.

What advice would you give to other girls who want to give it a go? Just come and give it a go, that's my best advice! It's great fun! That's why the flying squirrels like to have a web site (www.theflyingsquirrels.com)and we have Mark Peck making our videos so people can log on and see what it's all about.

Where's your favourite place to ride?
Out to grass mountain board centre, in Malvern, Herefordshire. It's a great place that caters for all standards of riders.

Worst injury? My worst injury has got to be breaking a couple of ribs round the back near my spine which was extremely painful. I did this on a rusty rail on my farewell ride in Scotland the day before moving to England!(That's another piece of advice-never attempt anything without checking it first and avoid riding with a good old Scottish hangover!)

Comp results? Took part in the No-sno Downhill Challenge (The Blinder) Somerset 2003, ATBA Series 2003-2004, Scottish mini series 2004, ATBA Scottish round 2005, ATBA rounds 3 and 4, 2007and got 1st place ladies downhill Scottish mini series 2004 and 3rd place ladies downhill ATBA round 4 2007

Any sponsors you'd like to mention? Sponsored by THE EDGE power kites and extreme sports in Norwich.

Thanks Lorna!
