We went to the Our Camp UK night at Tamworth to test drive the Our Camp experience, here's how we got on. Check back soon for a video report from the night...
I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about going to the Our Camp night at Tamworth. A series of falling outs with boxes and rails at the end of my season had left me practically terrified of any metal obstacles, and even the thought of hitting a rail was enough to send me into a cold sweat. Plus the fact that I had barely been on my board since didn't help my nerves much either.
I needn't have worried. In fact, if there was anywhere that was going to help me get over my irrational (well, semi-irrational) fears, this was it. Our coaches, Sonia Shaw, Laura Hill, Jo Chatsney and Posy Dixon were super supportive and encouraging, and every single other girl that turned up was friendly and super stoked to be there...
We started off in a mini slope hidden in the depths of the snowdome, and after getting our snow legs back, were divided into two groups - those who were already confident hitting rails, and those who had never done it before, or in my case, had developed a phobia of them! After practising a few ollies and 180s, most of the group successfully conquered both rails in no time at all.
I was seriously inspired by the guts of the other girls on the camp, some of them had only recently learnt their first turns, but they were throwing themselves onto rails - and stomping it - like nobodies business.
After a break for massages and goodie bags, it was onto the main slope and a whole new set of obstacles. The coaches made sure we made the most of every run, hitting a mini-jump at the top, practising our 180s on the way down and tackling the box and quarter-pipe at the bottom. You'll almost definitely progress more in a few hours with these girls than you would in a week on your own, and I can only imagine how much your snowboarding would come on in a whole week of Our Camp.
So if you're keen to progress your riding or you just fancy a night of fun snowboarding with other girls, then book up now for the second night on December 8th. It's amazing value for money - you can't even get 5 hours of slope time for £40, let alone coaching from top pros, a goodie bag and several new tricks in the bag.
