BRITS Day 2 Snowboard Halfpipe

Normally I'd be stoked for a ton of fresh snow: but not when you want to keep a freshly cut halfpipe pristine for the SNO!Zone British Halfpipe Championships in Laax, Switzerland last Wednesday, April 3, at the BRITS '08.

With the British Halfpipe Squad - including Olympians Dan Wakeham, Lesley McKenna and Kate Foster - were all in attendance there was some incredible moves thrown - although with the powder filled base even some of the biggest names falied to stick their tricks.

In the guys, fresh from winning the Europa Cup Halfpipe Championships Dom Harington took first place with a solid run of big frontside 720, to Haakon flip 720, massive frontside air, to McTwist and alley-oop 540 to finish. Fellow team member Ben Kilner nabbed his second silver of the event with a fronstide 720, Haakon flip 720, frontside 540, to a huge stylee melon grabbed straight air. Sam Cullum came third with a smooth run of melons, 720s and big frontiside airs.

As for the ladies, Lesley McKenna looked set to surely come top with a technical run, but the snow in the finals slowed her speed putting her second place behind Kate Foster who's practised run of backside melon, alley-oop, backside air, frontside 360 to cab 360 won her gold. Laura Hill came third with smooth frontside and cab 360 spins.
