A fun open freestyle snowboard contest for girls only, the Nikita Chickita 2008 ended the season in style last weekend in Serfaus, Austria.
With a progressive standard of riding (much higher than previous years), nineteen women, and three juniors, travelled from Italy, Croatia, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, the USA and Canada to enter - with the Eastern European girls really impressing the judges.
Snow and grey clouds, tested the contestants by reducing visibility, but by the end of the day finalists were rewarded with sun - and to be judged by Nikita rider Julia Baumgartner and Vinzenz Lüps, plus founder Heida Birgisdottir, who was there to watch and give out prizes.

In third place was Swiss miss Maude Richon, who's best run consisted of nose grab, backside 360 melon, some technical trickery on the butterbox to nosepress on the picnic table, finishing with a rock revert on the wall.
Second went Bohdana Šebestová, from the Czech Republic, who nabbed 500 euros with a backside 360 to tailgrab, backside 180, a gap to 50-50 on the kinked box (the only girl to do this) then a rock revert on the wall ride.

But it was fellow Eastern Europe rider Ana Rumiha, a Croatian Nikita team rider, who, after taking fourth last year, impressed the most to take gold and 1000 Euros. With a classy backside 180, frontside 30 indy, tree bonk and frontside 180, and frontside 360 on the wall, she also picked up sponsorship from Nikita for a year - including full outerwear and travel budget. Jealous!
