Steph Gilmore wins the Midori Pro

Aussie super surfer, and current World Champ, Stephanie Gilmore has won the 6-star World Qualifying Series (WQS) Midori Pro at Merewether Beach in Newcastle, Australia on Saturday April 5.

The biggest WQS event in Australia, thousands of spectators watched the 20 year old native throw some huge moves - despite the small right hand waves and light offshore wind.
Number one seed of 48 contestants, Steph won all five of her heats at the event, which took place from March 31 to April 5 - including a heated final against hot shot Sally Fitzgibbons.

After winning $4500, she's now taking some time off the WQS and ASP tours to go home to the Gold Coast of Australia to chill with friends and family - missing out the O'Neill Margaret River event this week, to then head to Bali, before the Billabong Pro in Brazil. Wow: what a life!
