HOT 100: Surfer magazine announce world's best young surfers

The US's definitive wave riding tome, Surfer magazine has just released a supplement with their May 200 issue - the Surfer Hot 100: an inside look at the best Young Surfers on the Planet, which includes a Hot 20 Girls section.

There's no prizes for guessing that super grom turned World ASP Champion Stephanie Gilmore is sitting pretty at number one; she was the only woman ever to win two WCT events as a wildcard - the 2005 Roxy Pro at Snapper Rocks (which she also became the youngest girl ever to win a WCT event), plus the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classic, where she beat seven-time world champ Layne Beachley.

In at number two is young phenom Carissa Moore - who confirmed her status as a star this year who also beat legend Layne Beachley at the Roxy pro on the Gold Coast, then by earning herself a perfect 10 score in a WQS... a lad's event. She's also just taken part as the only female in the Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro at Trestles. Go on girl!

After winning the World Pro Junior title, two Pro Junior events, and a Women's WQS six star 18 year old Gerroa, Australia local, Sally Fitzgibbons is Surfer's third best young surfer in the word. From Sunset Beach, Hawaii, Coco Ho is third fourth, followed by Karina Petroni is in fifth. You can see the full 20 online, but why do we only get a fifth of our surfers ranked next to the men? Maybe we'll be treated to a full 100 next year.

But, rather than leaving the top 100 in print, Surfer have taken the debate online - by creating a community on Loopd where you can add the profiles of any of the top 100 surfers as a friend, read their bios, message them, check out photos, watch videos, comment and even show off your own surfing skills by trying to win sponsorship from energy drink Monster. There is also an impressive How To section, plus the chance to nab loads more freebies and prizes - but you have to be a community member to access them.

Who do you think is the best women surfer in the world? Leave a comment and join the debate!
