Roxy Jam festival of female surf, music & art comes to Biarritz
Possibly the largest ladies surfing event in the world, the Roxy Jam returns this summer from July 11 to 16, for a female-focused festival of surfing, music and art - all on the gorgeous beaches of the Côte des Basques, Biarritz, France. (Read all Day One, Day Two and Day Three, plus watch Behind The Scenes part one and part two at 2007's event here on Nollie)
For one week Europe's home of surfing will be dedicated to women's surfing - with a focus on the boardriding cuture's root, influences and multi faceted style. The Women's Longboard World Championship 2008 will be the sport highlight of the week as 48 of the world's top female longboarders will compete for the WLC gold, silver or bronze title.
Shortboarders will also be in the town - as a two star leg of the European female pro juniors rolls into the town. Expect to see style legends Kassia Meador, alongside up coming super groms Carissa Moore, Lee-Ann Curren, Alize Arnaud and many more top surf girls.
The action won't all be in the water - inspiring and incredible artists that embody the Roxy spirit will be displaying their finest at a beachside gallery, exploring the theme of feminity and surfing. And that's not it; after Brazil's Nu Rave princesses CSS wowed the crowds last year, expect much the same for 2008, as The dø's, Headbang Girl (Nadege Winter), Operator Please and more keep the crowd's pumped apres surf - for free!
It's a huge event, so too much info for one post - read our profiles of the event's surfers, preview of artists who's work will be on show, and band bios right here on Nollie, to further tempt you across the channel. Flights maybe going quick - but trust us, if you want to go to one surf event this summer, and guarantee it'll be a banger, make it the Roxy Jam.
