In a bid to end the sausage fest that is the UK wakeboard cable scene, Steph Caller and Liu Batchelor had a stroke of genius: to start the girl's only Board Housewives tour. An epic success, the three day three stop tour spread a bit of girl shaped fun and style to three of the UK's cable lakes: Princes, WakeMK and Sheffield, as Liu reports on Alliance Wakeboard:
The First stop was to be Princes. Sunglasses and shorties were in order as the sun was out! Everyone had the buzz; girls were throwing themselves in all directions! We stopped and had Nick Davies, Jonty Green and the all boys to watch for lunch, which was sick. Refuelled and inspired, we hit the water again with varying degrees of success. Sarah Kingdom was so close to glory, just stacking the Holy Grail that is the raley!
The next day we hit WakeMK. For the second stop we were glad to welcome some new faces to the tour. To give the beginners some confidence, we decide to join them with some extreme kneeboarding, showing the beginners how to stack off the obstacles with confidence and style! Once they were up and running, we jumped back on our boards, to give the infamous MK obstacles a seeing too. As the evening drew to a close, it was a mad dash up to Sheffield before the gates to Rother Valley Country Park were closed for the night.
The next morning we woke up early to be greeted with rain and wind. Andy Granger’s croissants and coffees got everyone warmed up and thinking about their goals for the day. Maybe it was the excess of caffeine that inspired us to make a statement and rock out in style, with bikinis over wetsuits, vest underneath and no boardies! This more ‘streamlined’ style soon had everyone gracefully sailing over the new monster Hyperlite box and A-frame. In true northern style we only stopped riding when the rain started to hurt! Thanks to Jo’s awesome footage, we were able to offer tips and advice on each others riding, and have a giggle at ourselves! The marshmallows, balloons and other random items then came out, and so commenced the battle of the cables; old school party games taking over the bar, in the quest for pride and prizes. The weather then took pity and brightened up- giving the girls a last chance to try out some of the Hyperlite and Ronix demo gear.
All in all, it was an awesome tour. Cheers to Sheffield, WakeMK and Princes, Nik Green for the demo gear, Animal for the prizes, everyone who took photos, and of course the 35 intrepid ladies who came along and rode with such enthusiasm! Next year we hope to build on the success of this tour, taking it to more cables and offering more coaching and advice to more girls.
