This is kind of old news, but Dear & Yonder is a new surf film set to destroy cliches and explode the boundaries of women in film. From acclaimed filmmakers Tiffany Campbell and Andria Lessler (the sisters behind pioneer female skate production crew Villa Villa Cola) began the project in the summer of 2006 and aim to release the finished film for Summer 2009.
Roxy are now helping to fund the art influenced flick which aims 'to promote women's surfing in its purest form and natural light'....
This is no cliche sunset soaked, hippy surf flick. Dear and Yonder will feature progressive riding from Roxy team riders Sally Fitzgibbons, Sofia Mulanovich and Kassia Meador, as they explore both their home breaks (Dear) and more far flung spots (Yonder). It also aims to place today's surf stars in their deeper culture: showcasing footage from pioneers like Linda Benson, Rell Sun and Lisa Anderson as a historical anchor for younger audiences.
The cinematography is also incredible, as shot by Thomas Campbell, Scott Soens and Dave Homcy, who capture 'the authenticity of each surfer's experience through imagery, music and art.' The outcome: 'a story that defies boundaries and demonstrates the inner spirit of the female surfer of both today and yesterday'.
A trailer is in the works as I type and as soon as it's online expect to see it here, but for now enjoy these shots from the film, courtesy of DearandYonder.com
