Monday Music Club: Marina and the Diamonds, greek / welsh quirky pop singer songwriter from London

Shite indie is dead. Blokey, bland guitar bands like Razorlight, Keane and (yuck) Scouting for Girls are slipping down the album charts faster than the pound against the euro. But what to replace it? A tribe of independent, lady songwriters who are anything but meek and mild.

Little Boots (read our post on her here) has been touted as pop's biggest saviour: but, while the Blackpool synth-geek is harping on about unicorns, Marina and the Diamonds is a more introverted reflection of London life for this greek / welsh chanteuse.

Think Fiona Apple's cheeky cockney cousin, or Joanna Newsome if she was into Primark and pints. It's pop - but full of character: Mowgli's Road is almost Adam and the Ants-esque and old single Seventeen is a raw Katy Perry covering Kate Bush.
