Consumer Candy: Gretchen Bleiler GB Oakley outerwear collection
She's won gold at the Olympics and X Games, been awarded an
ESPY, nabbed two starring movie roles - in Oakley's
Uniquely last winter and this season's JMills production
Stance - got married this summer, and is the only snowboarder apart from
Shaun White who you're likely to see on the red carpet mixing with celebs;
Gretchen Bleiler is the mainstream poster girl for snow surfing.
And so, after it's successful debut year in 2008, her signature outerwear collection for
Oakley is back - dubbed simply GB - she's a series of three jackets, including a more environmentally friendly number, which are out now. Although I'm not sure about her lion like 'bed head' hair...
Loose fit but still structured,
The Mane Jacket is the high end 'eco' offering - an initiative
Gretchen has spoken out in support of on many occasion. Made from a new 100% recycled polyester fabric called
Eco Storm, which is highly waterproof (20K mm) and breathable (20 K g/m2/24h), with no solvents used, the fabric is also used on the
Lighter Fare jacket and Profile Pant. It's fully taped with Thinsulate and 80 gram sleeves too. Check it below:
As well as being available in a white colourway made from Eco Storm fabric,
The Lighter Fare is also available in a non Eco fabric - including this Neon Blue. A fail for being more environmentally friendly, but (if you don't mind a guilty
conscience) style points perhaps.
Ok, it's another non-eco edition (in reality there's just two jackets and one pant) but I'm also loving the black version of the
Mane jacket - slightly biker jacket, but also good for those moments in the woods on a white out day, when you're re-enacting
Twilight. In your head. On your snowboard. While staying waterproof. Or is that just me?
