Out now: Vans snowboard boots 2009/2010
Vans have done it again, with a cracking collection of snowboard boots for this season - winter 2009 / 2010 - from the soft, jib friendly Kira (3), to the Boarding For Breast Cancer collaboration on the Veil (5), Hana Beaman's signature Hi-Standard (2), to the high-end big mountain conquering Aura (4) and all-mountain Encore (1 and 6).
Known for making the best boots in the business, keep reading for details on picking your perfect pair...
Pro rider
Hana Beaman's signature boot,
The Hi-Standard (below) is packed full of trademark
Vans technology this winter - including the new Snowaffle Sole and the Trifit Asym-X Termal Liner. Another new addition is the 'internal web harness' which gives improved heel hold, support and comfort.
Soft and super comfortable,
The Kira (below) was my boot of choice last season, as it held onto laces - this year it's been redesigned with a BOA H2 Coiler system - which for small feet like mine could be a problem (BOA's always crush my size 4 UK feet or give me too much heel lift). But it keeps the Classic Snowaffle Sole which gives an increased level of sensitivity to the ground, keeping you more in tune with your board - perfect for rails ad jibbing.
If you prefer charging fast and hard, hitting big jumps, pipe and shredding powder, to rails, you'll probably need more support - especially around the ankle - with increased cushioning for large impacts. Check out the brand new
Aura:
Vans high end, stylish and light boot for women this season - with a double boa lacing system to give you a perfect fit, plus tonnes of cushioning, including the ImpactSorb dampening tech in the sole. This does make the
Aura a very wide boot for it's size, so you may need slightly larger bindings than usual. I rode it at the end of last season, and although very stiff to start, I was soon in love as I felt constant secure, with no heel lift - a rare million dollar fine indeed.
The Veil is very similar - but a little softer, to keep it flexible for all terrain riding, everyday, with a Custom Quadfit Thermal Liner and interchangeable fit-bars to give you the perfect fit.
Finally the
Encore's the perfect all-mountain beginner board, with the
Vans BOA H2 Coiler System and Snowaffle Sole for 'comfort, dampening and increased board feel.'
