On paper Vivian Girls cultural reference points may sound like a hipster's wet dream, but with a knack for writing lo-fi charming and kick-ass DIY garage-rock, following 2009's album Everything Goes Wrong, they're well worth the hype.

Formed as teens in Brooklyn, NYC, guitarist Cassie Ramone, bassist Kickball Kate and drummer Ali Koehler boast a bag of equally credible influences: Nirvana; a large nod to The Shangri-Las; the original Emo punk scene of Olympia, Washington; And Phil Spector 60s production values, with all vintage amps and effects pedals.
Together they create a sound that takes surf rock melodies, raw garage rock feistiness and three chord simplicity, all wrapped in the feminine sheen of perfectly harmonised vocals.

If the Vivian Girls' were a person, it'd be the burning melancholic potential of Scarlett Johanseen in Lost In Translation: realism, retro beauty and a subtle knowing-cool.

On tour in the UK in January, then the US in February and March check them out on MySpace and viviangirls.net or cyber stalk their blog: viviangirlsnyc.blogspot.com.
