Firstly, Sidewalk magazine has given the film a whopping four page feature (see above) in the current issue - a huge piece of coverage for a female focused film in a core skate mag, which is pretty ground breaking and inspiring.
Created by Lisa Whitaker of Villa Villa Cola - one of the inspirations behind As If, And What? - TheSideProject.com has also been showing some love, posting both a gallery from the Rogue team's Prague trip as well as regular news items on the movie.
There's also features on the film in the current issue of Cooler magazine and Huck magazine as well, as well as one written by yours truly for Swiss surf/skate/snow title 7 Sky. All this coverage proves exactly why Jenna made As If, And What? - to showcase these unsung talents of the UK, show what the riders can do, increase their visibility, perhaps up sponsorship and most importantly encourage more women - of all ages - to get on four wheels and a deck.
Meeting Jenna and seeing all the work she's done with Rogue and the All Girl Skate Jam definitely inspired me to try skating again after more than a decade - and has even reignited a passion for rolling within some of the girls in the film themselves:
"The fact that Sadie is now hasselling everyone for a skate again makes me really happy," Jenna emailed me recently, on a well deserved long-term holiday exploring and skating New Zealand. "Sadie's been skating a long time but was getting a little disillusioned with the scene and had stopped skating on a regular basis. But after seeing herself in the film (and realising how good she is!!) she's well amped about skating again!"
So what surprised her most? "Ha I don't know, urm probably the response and the amount of orders from America, didn't really think about how many people the words got out to."
And anything else that she'd like to mention? "Thank you to my Mum and Dad, Neil Szymanski and Carmela Fleury of Les Ettes, who without their help this wouldn't have happened!"
As If, And What? is available now from rogueskateboards.bigcartel.com for £10 - a tenner well spent!
