Dubbed 'the female Strokes,' The Plastiscines were signed by NME editor Krissi Murrison to Nylon Records, when she was Musical Director for the stateside style mag and have been tickling tastemaker's radars for a while.
But, finally this spring, with big Euro tours planned, and their second album About Love just released, the french quartet are set to break out beyond their cult fashionista following...
Ok, so don't hold the fact that they've appeared on Gossip Girl twice against them: they've a fully credible pedigree, growing up on a of diet The Ramones, Blondie, Stooges and B-52s.
And ignoring the severe lack of french female-guitar band heritage The Plastiscines looked across the channel for inspiration: it was at a gig for London oiks' The Libertines that founding members Katty Besnard, Marine Neuilly and Zazie Tavitian met bassist Louise Basillien.
Admittedly The Plastiscines good looks have probably nabbed them a fair amount of coverage, (that and their bourgeois paris gene pool). Their lyrics aren't going to win an Ivor Novello, although they are writing in their second language, and their original rough, DIY garage rock has been polished for their new mainstream audience.
But The Plastiscines make unashamedly fun and frantic pop punk, which bridges a gap between a plethora of tastes. Perfect for your next post contest party. Enjoy:
