Not your usual skate film, Machotaildrop is the ambitious full length from Corey Adams and Alex Craig - a fantasy adventure soaked in eccentricity where skateboarding is not just a hobby, but 'a noble pursuit worthy of the highest cultural recognition.'
Directed and written by the pair, the film is the culmination of a two year contest from US cable channel Fuel TV - 'The Fuel Experiment'- that Adams and Craig won with their short film Harvey Spoons. Their $1 million prize money then funded Machotaildrop - which was filmed in budget in Bulgaria.

The narrative starts with the golden american dream that underpins almost any action sports fiction film: the amateur's aspiration to turn pro - in this case it being teen talent Walter Rhum. Like any wannabe professional, he compiles a 'sponsor-me' video (painted gold in a nod to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory perhaps) then sends it to Machotaildrop - the biggest skate brand on the planet. Successful he's summoned to their castle-like HQ to sign up, but, rather than discovering fame and fortune, something far more sinister is bubbling underneath the skate conglomerate's seeming innocent, idyllic and fake facade.

A film rooted in the love for skateboarding, starring éS professional skateboarders Rick McCrank and John Ratray, Machotaildrop is much more than a straight skate flick: yes, there's some impressive skating in it for sure, but it's fairy story reminiscent of Roald Dahl's twisted imagination, Spike Jonze's dabbles with darkness, and even has some Clockwork Orange style moments - creating a window for general film fans into the mind of a young skater.

Already winning accolades at film festivals worldwide, the film has as yet unconfirmed distribution - but, following NYC and US screenings will be showing in London, at the Prince Charles Cinema, Leicester Square on Thursday June 3. Tickets are just £5 from Slam City Skates (slamcity.com) or www.princecharlescinema.com
