Photographer, anthropologist and cultural documentor Ari Marcopoulos is a living legend. And, finally he has collated his work shooting New York's embryonic skate scene, in both his book Stoopz and a new photo show at Oh Wow, Florida - No Cause.

Ari Marcopoulos wasn't a time of mega sponsors, perfectly manicured parks, multi million dollar sponsor deals and mass media exposure. Instead, 1993 NYC skaters were 'train-hopping, taxicab jumping, runaway kids.' Borough and background wasn't relevant. Bombing hills and power in numbers was.

With an inane ability for capturing underground, emerging communities in the US he is always one of the first to bear witness to new cultures - way before the spread to the mass. And, with it, produced some of the most definitive images of his generation - rebellious, independent, defiant and the pioneers of a new alternative youth culture.

Via Polaroid, black & white film, intimate portaits, photocopies, drawings and more, his new show at Oh Wow, No Cause takes the viewer on a ride through the NYC skate scene at it's inception - the characters, personalities, places and events that moulded one of the most powerful scenes to influence pop culture on a global scale, ever. From the heart of someone at it's passionate core.
