Unlike New York, Vancouver and LA, London has no surf - but still has a dedicated army of wave riders, dedicated to weekend warrior trips to the coast, or pricey foreign excursions.
Combined with the capitals high number of creatives, you wonder why no one's started a surf cinema event before? Now they have - with the launch of the first London Surf Film Festival from October 13 to 15, held at the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith.
As well as three days of the finest global surfing flicks, the London Surf Film Festival has also launched a shorts contest - The Shorties presented by The National Trust. Open to filmmakes from, or based in, Britain or Ireland only, the contest is 'a chance for home grown talents to flex their film making muscles on a world stage.'
And the organisers want female film talent to get involved - pro movie makers or beginners with a huge stoke for surf. This could be your chance to get noticed by both the media and surf industry, and be the next Kathryn Bigelow or Tiffany Campbell .
The brainchild of media collective We Are The Fold, in partnership with Huck magazine, Little White Lies, The National Trust and Magic Seaweed, the inaugural LSFF promises to be 'a celebration of the cream of international surf culture.'
