Carissa Moore wins wildcard to be solo woman at Vans Triple Crown of Surfing

She's beaten all the women - winning the champion's crown on the ASP World tour - so now Hawaii's Carissa Moore will take on the men, after nabbing a wildcard entry to the 2011 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in November.

Being the solo female in a contest is nothing new to Ms Moore: she's already won the Quiksilver King of the Groms contest competing against all blokes, then she scored a rare 10 wave in a Men's WQS event in Mexico in 2007.

Now she's been allowed entry into both the Hawaiian Pro and the Vans World cup - surfing against 200 guys - after the women's event was cancelled this year due to lack of sponsors.

"I wasn't planning on doing any of the events at all," said Moore to organsiers. "I maybe threw the idea out and joked about it to my dad, but never thought it would become reality."

It's a regular slot for Carissa, who's been taking part in the women's events of the Vans Triple Crown since she was 12 - but this is the first time she, and any other woman as far as we know, has entered the men's events on the notorious North Shore.

"I feel so honored for even the thought, let alone the opportunity, to compete with the guys on the North Shore," Moore added. "I think I am definitely going to keep my expectations low and anything better I will be stoked with."

Yet again, Carissa is pushing women's surfing to unprecedented levels. Ground breaking? Earth shattering more like.
