Plastic could be our planet's biggest problem. Created to be durable, this is exactly why it's such a threat: taking up to 450 years to break down, plastics end up in our oceans, are eaten by seabirds, poison marine species - and eventually us.
Which is why Lush Cosmetics have launched their 'Shop of the Tops' campaign - to tackle the problem of consumer pollution by recycling plastic bottle tops.
Watch their shocking film and find out how to get involved after the jump...
Want to do something? Here's a few suggestions:
- Share Lush's Finding Fulmars video on your facebook, twitter or Google+ and build awareness
- Start collecting plastic bottle tops and drop to them to your local Lush shop
- Stop buying bottled water - and encourage friends and family to do the same. Instead buy a long lasting water bottle, and fill up with tap water instead - which can now be done at cafes, bars, shops and more for free across the UK thanks to the genius scheme at tapwater.org.
- Quit plastic wrapped food - and opt for produce with lesser packaging, i.e. loose vegetables over wrapped and trayed options. Or even better, go for compostable or recyclable packaging.
- Sign up for a local litter pick - at your home beach, river or town - via Surfers Against Sewage, Keep Britain Tidy or organise you're own.
- Lush are also donating proceeds from sales Seanik shampoo bars in stores to Surfers Against Sewage so they can keep protecting our oceans - and not just for surfers.
