The Roxy Chicken Jam is Dead: long live the Roxy Snow Pro!

After financial hiccups last year due to the second sponsor pulling out, sadly Europe's biggest, and funnest, female snowboard contest - the Roxy Chicken Jam - had to be cancelled. But this year Roxy have resurrected the event in a new evolved form: The Roxy Snow Pro - which takes place in Saalbach Hinterglem, Austria on February 9 to 11.

A platform for emerging talent, the Roxy Chicken Jam was more than a contest: it was also a mega party and celebration of women's huge progression in snowboarding - which thankfully continued last year with the US version in Mammoth in March.

The Euro version had problems other than financial: due to the insanely overcrowded TTR contest calendar - in addition to FIS comps for Olympic hopefuls - the European Roxy Chicken Jam was stuck in an early season position - with conditions often challenging.

Made worse by poor snow fall in Europe over recent years, the early season timing meant contest organisers sometimes faced winds, ice and lack of snow to build pro-standard arks.

But the Roxy Snow Pro - a 5 star TTR slopestyle event - is set to address the balance: with an all new prime slot in mid-season February, back in the buzz town that of Saalbach, the one day focused event promises to bring back the celebratory feel.

With a whopping US $25,000 prize purse, the best female snowboarders on the planet will descend on the Austrian ski town - including Roxy riders Torah Bright, Kjersti Buass, Aimee Fuller and Cheryl Maas - for a floodlit night time final, live concert and closing party.

The Roxy Snow Pro is still  space for new talent: on Friday morning, there is an open qualification for 30 amateur riders to join the invited pros and be among the 25 of the main session, who'll compete to qualify on Friday afternoon. The ten best from this session will then advance to the finals on Friday.

As ever with Roxy events, if you get the chance get yourself down there for some all-female inspiration, and unpretentious fun times in Austria's apres ski capital.
