Dubbed 'the female
Strokes,'
The Plastiscines were signed by
NME editor
Krissi Murrison to
Nylon Records, when she was Musical Director for the stateside style mag and have been tickling tastemaker's radars for a while.
But, finally this spring, with big Euro tours planned, and their second album About Love just released, the french quartet are set to break out beyond their cult fashionista following...

It's taken three years, but Parisian club culture princess Uffie has a new single - the awesome electro / breakbeat soundclash MCs Can Kiss. Out today, it's a taster for the 22-year-old's first full-length album Sex Dreams and Tight Jeans, out next month on Ed Banger Records - including a duet with Pharrell Williams no less.

Ok, so their third album Crossing The Rubicon came out last summer, but with a couple of live dates lined up and back in the studio, it's time to show love to The Sounds.
One of the most popular bands ever to feature on snow movies,
Absinthe Films are huge fans and regular pick them to soundtrack sections, as did
Mack Dawg (RIP), the swedish quintet also just played a storming set at the
Burton European Open.

Ever been to a gig of someone you've never listened to, with no expectations, then been completely spell bound, so you get spine tingles, hairs standing on end and goosebumps?
Ben Howard's gorgeous acoustic poetry has that power, as I witnessed after seeing him live.
Born in Middelsex, London, Ben moved to the South Coast city of Falmouth, Devon, in his teens where he developed his surfing talent as well as phenomenal musical ability. Sponsored by
Quiksilver, he's performed his beautiful tunes at contests and festivals across Europe - and is now hitting the road again to support
Xavier Rudd in February.

On paper
Vivian Girls cultural reference points may sound like a hipster's wet dream, but with a knack for writing lo-fi charming and kick-ass DIY garage-rock, following 2009's album
Everything Goes Wrong, they're well worth the hype.
Formed as teens in Brooklyn, NYC, guitarist Cassie Ramone, bassist Kickball Kate and drummer Ali Koehler boast a bag of equally credible influences: Nirvana; a large nod to The Shangri-Las; the original Emo punk scene of Olympia, Washington; And Phil Spector 60s production values, with all vintage amps and effects pedals.

January: gig season is on hiatus, festivals are forever away, therefore it's time to predict who'll be this year's big music success story. Already number 6 on NME's 2009 Future 50 list, on top of many a mag's list for 2010 will be Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith - collectively known as The XX.
A south west London trio playing Joy Division like dark, stylish electro pop, with dual girl/boy vocals and a dollop of My Bloody Valentine, the sound like Crystal Castles swapping the amphetamine fulled frenetics, for a chilled stoned Saturday.
