Artist In Situ: Hannah Stouffer - skate & snow illustrator

hannah_stouffer_artist_illustrator_nike_vans_gnu_element_surf_snow_skate_los_angeles.jpg

I came across Los Angeles artist Hannah Stouffer's work a month or so ago via a random blog link and loved her dark, yet colourful and intricate illustrations. So does most of the So Cal action sports industry, as she's recently done work for Nike Snowboarding (5), Nike 6.0, Element Skateboards (4), Gnu Snowboards (1), Arts Projekts (3) and now her own signature Vans (2) high top shoe.

[Check out her work in detail after the jump...]

Marisa Dal Santo in Zero's Strange World: best section ever?

video_marisa_dal_santo_in_zero_skateboards_strange_world_hype_new_film_best_girls_section_ever.jpg

Marisa Dal Santo
is killing it right now. One of skating's most progressive women, 'Gnar Mar' sends it in silky smooth style 24/7 - following fellow Zero rider and pioneer Elissa Steamer

Which is why the 21-year-old's section in Zero Skateboard's new film Strange World has caused such a stir: post the late October premiere it was dubbed 'Raddest Section' by Transworld Skate, a huge highlight for Skateboarder Magazine, and ESPN said she's now 'the girl with the best skate part ever--no joke.'

andy_warhol_alien_workshop_skateboard_skate_decks_limited_edition_print.jpg

After Burton's Andy Warhol outerwear collection in 07/08, the snowboard giant has released a limited edition series of decks with Alien Workshop featuring the pop art legend's work - making use of those pricey artists rights and the skate company they bought in February 2008.

UK all female skate film As If, And What? global media takeover!

as_if_and_what_jenna_selby_rogue_skateboards_all_female_girl_skate_film_uk_2.jpg

I've rabbited on excitedly about As If, And What? on nollie - the first european all-female skate film from Rogue Skateboards founder Jenna Selby - tonnes, but it looks like the circle of love for her project has been growing.

Firstly, Sidewalk magazine has given the film a whopping four page feature (see above) in the current issue - a huge piece of coverage for a female focused film in a core skate mag, which is pretty ground breaking and inspiring.

Created by Lisa Whitaker of Villa Villa Cola - one of the inspirations behind As If, And What? - TheSideProject.com has also been showing some love, posting both a gallery from the Rogue team's Prague trip as well as regular news items on the movie.

OUT NOW: As If, And What? first European female skate film

As If And What? the first UK/ European all female skateboard film by Rogue Skateboards owner/founder Jenna Selby.jpg

It's here!! After a whole summer of anticipation, Jenna Selby's tour de force - Europe's first all female skate film As If, And What? - is finally available to buy. Just in time for those last minute (or belated?) Christmas present requests.

I went to the premiere in London a few weeks ago and the standard of riding is insane - London teenagers Sam Bruce and Helena Long both stand out with their fearlessness, style and looking like they're absolutely loving it 24/7. UK legend, Lucy Adams easily sticks the most incredible part of the film too - showing what professionalism, focus, skill and determination can achieve with the best part ever laid to film by a European rider.

There's so many highlights: Sue Hazel's appearance from retirement is brilliant - all old school street skating, vintage competition footage and retro mini ramp sessions. There's also some huge and incredible vert ramp aerial skills - accompanied with a huge grin, tonnes of stylish street sections and some British comedy moments to match.

Keep reading to watch the first section teaser and for info on how to buy..

At last weekend's Quiksilver Tony Hawk Show, November 20 and 21 at Paris' historic Grand Palais, Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins proved why she's the most exciting female skater on the planet right now: by being the first woman to land a 540 McTwist on a skateboard.
